Sprint Retrospective Template for Agile Teams — Refront

Run better retrospectives with this structured template. Capture what went well, what didn't, and concrete action items for continuous improvement.

About This Template

Retrospectives are the engine of continuous improvement. This template provides proven formats for reflecting on your sprint, identifying patterns, and committing to actionable changes. Track action items as Refront tickets so improvements actually happen.

Variations

Start–Stop–Continue

Classic three-column format where the team identifies what to start doing, what to stop, and what to continue. Simple and effective for most teams.

Best for: Teams new to retrospectives or those wanting a quick, focused format.

Mad–Sad–Glad

Emotionally aware format that surfaces team sentiment. Participants share what frustrated them, what disappointed them, and what made them happy.

Best for: Teams going through challenging periods who need to address morale and emotional health.

4Ls: Liked–Learned–Lacked–Longed For

Four-quadrant format that captures positive experiences, learnings, gaps, and wishes. Provides a balanced and constructive discussion framework.

Best for: Mature agile teams that want deeper reflection beyond simple start/stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can retrospective items be submitted anonymously?

Yes. Refront supports anonymous submissions so team members can share honest feedback without fear of judgement. The facilitator reveals items during the discussion.

How do I track action items from the retro?

Action items are converted into Refront tickets with one click. They carry over into the next sprint so the team is held accountable for following through.

Can I see trends across multiple retrospectives?

Refront tracks recurring themes across sprints. If the same issue appears in multiple retros, it's flagged as a systemic pattern that needs strategic attention.
